Transferred Files from Windows 7 and all files got converted to XML documents

I copied all Office, PDF files from Windows 7 to my personal HD and I transferred over all the documents from the Personal HD and noticed all the documents in the HD are now converted to XML documents.

The original documents were pptx,xlsx,pdf,docx.....Even if I edit the extension from .xml to .pptx/ppt it does not open the document and gives an error message.

Could you please let me know how to convert all these XML files back to the original office/pdf files so I can open and view them? I do not have the ability to recopy the data, as I gave the laptop back and deleted everything from the laptop.

Hello Steve and John,

Thanks so much for the help in letting me know that the files are encrypted. I went back to my HD and noticed it had a symantec encryption tool.exe. I opened that and put in the password. It opened a folder with all the same files and showed as encrypted. I downloaded the decrypted files and saved and now I can open all these files.

Thanks to both of you, I got to know they were encrypted and the process. Appreciate your help as it saved a ton of my time and saved a lot of important information.
