powerpoint 2016 taking up 25-30% cpu resource

hi,

Whilst working on a issue which is unrelated to PowerPoint 2016, we noticed that the users presentations always seemed to take 25-30% CPU when idle for nearly 5 minutes, which can make the system lag.

This is not machine specific and we can see that different devices with similar spec is doing the same.

The powerpoint files are nearly 100 slides and reside on onedrive / sharepoint.  If we save the file locally, this does not happen.

When looking at system resource monitor and filtering out just powerpoint activity we can see that it connects to multiple IP address.  We presume it takes time to download all the necessary meta-data, version history, setting up collaboration etc.

we actually want to have some clarification on the process.

specs:

windows 10 anniversary update

8gb ram

i7-7500u dual core cpu

Hi Sol_itx,

Thanks for your sharing.

No documentation is available to verify the background process.

However, according to process of elimination we can confirm that this will not happen to blank documents and documents residing on local storage, which is same as your test result.

Thus we can safely assume the resource is consumed by PowerPoint processing data for that specific document.

Joanne
