Hi,

Thank you for choosing Microsoft Community. I will assist you with the issue you are facing with accessing the Office 2013 suite.

Verify if Office is installed on the computer by going to control panel, programs and features list.

If the program is listed, then try the steps below:

Step 1:

Try to access the Office application by going programs files location and check if it opens.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/find-and-start-office-applications-in-windows-8-or-windows-rt-HA103581103.aspx

If you are able to access the programs then you may create the shortcut on the desktop.

If the above step fails, repair the Office suite and check if it helps fix the issue:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/repair-or-remove-office-2010-HA010357402.aspx

Step 2:

If repair fails, run the fix it to remove Office suite. This is to ensure the Office 2013 traces are completely removed from the computer.

You may run the fix it from the article below to remove corrupt Office 2013 keys from the computer:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

Once the program is removed, restart the computer and then re-install Microsoft Office 2013 suite. Check if it helps fix the issue.

I hope the above steps helps. If you need further assistance on this particular issue or any other Office related issues let us know and we will be glad to assist you.

Thank you.

I have same issue on windows 8 /Office 2013. I went to Programs & Features and it doesn't list excel, word or powerpnt. However on the metro interface it shows the icon and if I type "excel" it appears as a seach tile. If I try to execute any of word, excel, powerpnt it just doesn't launch!  It was all working great before windows 8 update. I did a system restore but it didn't restore office.

Windows 8 is a disaster!

Paddy

The same just happened to mine.  One minute I could open an Excel file and the next it was asking me what program to use.

I checked Metro and Control Panel....No sign of any Microsoft Office programs on my system.

This is a nightmare!

Hi Paddy,

I will assist you with the issue you are facing with Office 2013 programs.

Do you get any specific error message when the launch fails?

When you go to programs and features list you will not see Excel or Word listed, you need to look for Office 2013 installation.

If you are able to see Office 2013 in the list, you may try performing the online repair of the Office installation and check if it helps.

Have you tried the steps provided in the previous post?

If you have not tried, try and let us know the result.

Thank you.

There was no error message. The mouse cursor just went to spinning and then nothing.

I had to do  complete un-install of office and re-install.  Actually a simple process....as myaccount keeps the long unlock key.

I believe the problem was caused by doing a windows update (47 critical updates). So once I uninstalled office I then upgraded windows first and then re-installed office.

I spent a fortune to buy Microsoft office (Home and student 2013) and it is all gone after updating my system to windows 8.1. I don't know what to do. I am not an expert in computers so I do not understand the messages on the message trail. Please come to my aid as I have documents of value that I cannot access.

One more thing:
Running win 8.1. But it already happened when had win 8.
This is a fresh install of win 8 followed by win 8.1. Only one program is installed by now. Google Chrome.

Is windows being restored? If you use system restore, anything installed after the restore point is removed.

Are any other apps missing?

Can you find them if you search? In the click to run versions, the office apps are not in the "usual" place - C:\Program files\Microsoft Office\ folder has just a few files, the apps are in the root folder under C:\Program files\Microsoft Office 15\
