I am trying to install a knology.net email address into Outlook 10. Incoming connects but outgoing will not. I downloaded Windows Mail and it loaded just fine. Is there a way to load to Outlook 10?
If you're using the exact same settings between the two email clients - there would be no reason for it not to work. The operative words in the previous sentence are "exact same settings" and specifically in terms of Outgoing server authentication and server port number assuming that the same email account was configured using the same email protocol (I.e. POP3, IMAP etc)
You may also want to read the following thread related to Knology.net (yes I know it's about iPhone/iPad - that's the point)
Cannot get knology email on iPhone or iPad

*** as long as any email client uses the correct settings for the email account you are using (which only the email provider can give you with absolute certainty - the email server doesn't know, care, or distinguish what the email client is)

I have since discovered Knology.net only supports Outlook Express or Microsoft Mail.
There is no such thing as only supporting "Outlook Express" or "Microsoft Mail". The same settings are used by <any> email client whether it comes from Microsoft or not.
There is a world of difference between Knology.net support staff stating that they don't support anything other than OE or WM and not being able to connect to a server. The first simply states that they do not provide support for telling you <HOW> to connect to the server which is different than providing the necessary settings for the server.

I found instructions on the WOW site and it only mentions Outlook Express and Windows Mail. Nothing else.
That has nothing to do with whether or not any email client can access the email account. (OE hasn't been available since Windows 'XP which says a lot about how frequently they update their website given that Outlook is the most commonly used email client on the planet). The same settings are used by all email clients - just entered differently into the program. Given the problem you stated - have already identified the two most likely (common) causes for that problem to occur.

I appreciate your input. Been doing this stuff for several years and unless it is a port issue, it will not load. I dont know whats causing it. Just doesnt work. Spoke to a tech friend of mine locally and he gets calls about this all the time and just sends them to Windows Mail. someone who uses a internet provider generally doesnt care.

Given the comments made by the iPhone/iPad folks who also encountered a lot of grief - might be time to heed the advice given there if it is a server side issue from a 2nd (3rd ???) tier ESP causing specific email clients to fail especially impacting such an enormously large user population (Outlook and Apple). Seriously doubt you're going to find a large pool of Outlook users here using Knology.net.

For this lady, Windows Mail is fine.
In future - you may want to take a look at the Outlook SMTP settings from the WOW website in case things changed when they bought Knology.net

never seen port settings before referencing "shared & dedicated servers"
