why does my outlook mail look different?

Here is the correct way but now it looks completely different (2nd pic), including the ribbon

Hi MJessie,

Thanks for the screenshots. Which Outlook client version user using, please refer to the article and provide us with the detailed version screenshot see What version of Outlook do I have?

Please follow these close the Microsoft Outlook, and open the Run dialog box with pressing the Win + R keys.

Enter the outlook.exe /cleanviews in the Open: box, and click the OK button to check this issue.

Please also try to troubleshoot this issue via using different computer (e.g. any colleagues PC) to determine whether it is specific client side issue.

If you are Office 365 Exchange Online subscriber can use the Office 365 Support and Recovery Assistant (SaRA) tool that can diagnose the Outlook problems. See: Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant
