Outlook Desktop 2016 store button missing, can't get addins

Apparently the only way to add an add-in these days is via the Store, despite the Outlook 2016 desktop version (WIndows 10, Office 365 subscription) still having the File>Options>Add-ins>Manage>Add dialogue. This asks for a .exe or .dll file but no option to search and microsoft does not offer a .exe/.dll version of its add-ins for download. The help file says to use the Store button to add an Add-in but my Home ribbon does not have a Store button and the option to add it by customizing the ribbon is greyed out. Not sure where to go from here.

Hi Fabio,

Here are the methods to access Add-ins:

  1. Click File> Options> Add-in as you mentioned. Regarding “the ribbon is greyed out”, please provide a screenshot showing the current situation.
  2. Click File> Manage Add-ins like the image shows below:

Then type in the certificate to sign in to Office programs and turn on add-in in the web page.

Here is an article for your reference: Get an Office Add-in for Outlook.

If the information above doesn’t help, please provide the following information:

  • Your Outlook client details by clicking File> Office Account.
  • Some screenshots showing detailed information about the Add-ins and Store for further analysis.
  • Did everything work fine before?
  • Can any others in your organization access the Add-ins? We need to exclude the administrator's actions.

Best Regards,

Vanessa

Which add-in are you trying to add?

COM-based add-ins are still supported in Outlook 2016 and work for all account types.

Store add-ins are only available for Exchange accounts and do not work with POP3 and IMAP based accounts. This is probably why you don't see the Store button.

This is probably the issue, I have a Zarafa server MAPI account. There is no "Manage Add-ins" button under File either, just the "Manage COM Add-ins" button.

Hi PhilW_840,

Based on my test, the Store icon does not show on IMAP configuration on Outlook with the same account.

If you have an Exchange account configured in Outlook. You can refer to this article on how to get Office Add-in for Outlook.

Feel free to post back if you have questions.

Best Regards,

Ruel

It turns out I just had to manually add the button to the toolbar. The trick is to know the name of the button: Browse Office Store.

See this thread for full instructions.
