Outlook 2016 rules start application option gone

Hi

About 3 weeks ago i noticed that some alerts from client side rules that start application started showing errors. I just checked and tried remaking the rules and now when i make new rules or edit old rules i dont see the check box for start application any more or run script.

Could someone please tell me how to get it back.

Thank you

Lee

Answer

Hi Lee,

Here is a workaround about Outlook 2016 missing ‘start application’ and ‘run a script’ actions in Rules.

Please do the following steps to add a new value in your computer’s registry:

1. Click Start -> Search, type ‘regedit’ (Note: there is no quotation marks in the command.) and press Enter.

2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Security.

3. Right-click a blank area, create a new DWORD Value named as ‘EnableUnsafeClientMailRules’ and set it to 1.

Note: Please back up the Registry before performing the steps above. You can refer to this article to back up your Registry.

Thanks for your time and patience.

Regards,

Barry
