Disappearing Archive & Delete button

Hello,

I am a longtime Outlook and Exchange power user, but just upgraded to  Outlook 365 on Windows 10 from Outlook 2016, utilizing the same servers (I have a personal 365 account and a university managed exchange account).  One of the things I liked about the new version was the handy archive button next to each message in the preview pane.  However, the button seems to change to the old delete button or disappear altogether randomly.  Any insights as to why?  It happens on both accounts.

365 Business?

There is no Archive option in the preview pane, there is a Delete Btn

Do you perhaps have an add-in providing this option?

There is an Archive option in the Ribbon (Delete group)

Also with a mail selected, the Backspace key will process Archive

Yes, 365 Business, no related add ins.  I swear it had the archive button in the preview pane.  At the moment there is nothing or I would take a screenshot.

Thank you for posting. May I know which Outlook 365 desktop client version are you using? See What version of Outlook do I have?

I have checked on my side using current latest version 1908 (Build 11929.20254) with Office 365 Exchange Online account. You can right click on message choose “Set Quick Actions...” then you can customize what happens to items in your inbox when you hover over them choose the Archive action it will appear on the reading pane. Here is the detailed screenshot for your reference:


If you still having problem, please provide us with detailed steps screenshot which you have tried for further analysis.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the update. I notice that you are using Semi-Annual Channel version 1902 (Build 11328.20368) therefore, you don’t have “Set Quick Actions…” option.

You may ask your Office 365 admin or IT team to switch from Semi-Annual Channel to Monthly Channel 1908 (Build 11929.20254) for the Office 365 to get the feature option. For your reference: How to switch from Semi-Annual Channel to Monthly Channel for the Office 365 suite

Unfortunately I am part of a large University organization and I doubt they'll make that change on my request...
