Unread messages change to read after two minutes. I haven't read them

I have a problem.

YOU "upgraded" my Outlook to Outlook 2016.

We have a MacBook Pro and a PC and iPhones.

My new emails are marked "unread" for about 2 minutes and then change to "read".

I have gone to Options, Mark as Read and checked all three options, (separately, of course) multiple times. None of the options solves the problem. Two minutes and message marked read.

What is the deal. How can I fix this?

This happens on all apparatus....makes no difference if it's an Apple product or the Dell PC.

This is unacceptable.

How can it be fixed?????

Hello,

Please provide more information before we proceed.

  1. What is the type of email account that you configure in Outlook application? Verify the same from File> Account Settings> Account Settings> Email.
  2. Did you sync email account to all devices including MacBook, PC and phone?

If yes, let us try removing the email account temporary from all other device except Windows computer. Now check the status of unread message. If they remain unchanged, try configuring the email account to other device one by one to find the issue causing device.

Please follow the above steps and post back with the result and information asked for further assistance.

Thank you.

Check to make sure the iPhone isn't marking the messages or that iCloud isn't, if you get the messages through iCloud.

First...where are you asking me to find File>Account Settings>Account Settings>Email?
I set up accounts on each device. Yes, they do sync.
The emails get marked "read" on the PC also. I have tried them all.
The emails in the "Junk" folder are just fine. They are all marked "Unread" unless I open them.
On the MacBook, I am at Outlook.com. I am not on an app. On the iPhone, I set it up under the Mail setup on the phone to Outlook.
Hope you can help!
Anne

Not letting it access the mailbox is one way.

What type of account did you create on the phone? What account sync settings have you specified?

It's an Outlook.com account on the phone.

But this is happening on all electronics...MacBook Pro, PC with Microsoft, iPhone, iPad.

Sync settings where? Phone says "days to sync"...no limit.

If all of your devices are connected to the same mailbox, then when any one of them reads the message, they will all see the message as read. I still think one of your devices is marking the message as read. The sync limit is probably not a factor.

I get that. I'm not bothered by the fact that they are marked "read" if I have read them on ANY device.

The problem is that they are marked "read" on the first device I open to see them, before I read them (or click on them).

NOTE: Junk mail is fine. All unread. Actually, interestingly enough, I don't think they are marked "read" when I do open one up!!!!!

Go figure!

Microsoft....fix this....does Microsoft ever see these issues from the "community"???

Rarely. These are peer-to-peer forums.

Microsoft asked if this question was answered.

The answer is a resounding NO!

Microsoft must need to fix it. Emails still being marked read across the board. (except Junk mail which reads unread and doesn't even mark read when I open them!)

And when you open a box (Inbox etc) the box doesn't go to the top emails. Stays in the middle somewhere.

C'mon Microsoft...FIX THIS!!!
