It requires the password for your Hotmail aka outlook.com mail account in order to set that mail account up.

Are you able to logon to this live account in your browser?

If you had turned two-step verification on, get an app password here:

https://account.live.com/Proofs/AppPassword

Enter the given code instead of your Microsoft account password

Hope this helps.

If you are unable to answer, do not respond "run sfc /scannow". Have a nice day.

Hi,

I would like to know if the two step verification is enabled.

If yes, then let us disable it or generate an app password.

You may refer to the following link and check if it helps.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/two-step-verification-faq

Hope this information helps you. Please let us know if you need additional information.

Thank you.

I am having the same problem. I do not have two-step verification enabled. I'm able to login to Outlook 2016 (Windows 8) one desktop but not on my laptop with Windows 10 using the same exact password.

Where you can't use security codes, use app passwords

Some apps (like the mail apps on some phones) or devices (like the Xbox 360) can't use regular security codes. If you see an “incorrect password” error on an app or device after you turn on two-step verification, but you’re sure your password was correct, that means you'll need an app password for that app or device.

To get an app password
  1. Go to the Security settings page, and sign in with your Microsoft account.

  2. Under App passwords, click Create a new app password. The new, unique app password will appear on your screen.

  3. In the app or device you’re trying to use, enter that new app password instead of your regular password.

App passwords are only necessary if you use two-step verification. If you don't see the App passwords section on the Security settings page, you may not have two-step verification turned on.

Hey, I had the same problem. If you could not solve it yet, try adding the app password that ****yaedo suggested but add it when you first register your account, i.e.:

After the Name, e-mail address, when you have to type your password twice; instead of putting your usual Outlook psw type the app password you recently created on your security page.

Worked for me wonderfully.

Thanks! I don't actually have the two-step verification turned on. Password works on Windows 8 computer, but not Windows 10.

The Windows Security window keeps prompting me to authenticate.

I have cleared all Windows Credentials and still get a pop up window all the time.

What : Windows 10, Outlook 2016

Setup:

Login to laptop using WindowsLiveAccount.

Only one account setup in Outlook 2016 - Corporate Exchange Account

  • Start Outlook 2016 and get first Windows Security pop up window for connection to exchange via OWA.
  • Login successfully using domain\username and password. Exchange e-mail works fine.
  • Continuously get pop up of Windows Security for logging into WindowsLiveAccount. (WindowsAccount\WindowsLiveAccount)
  • Enter password of WindowsLiveAccount and it doesn't authenticate
  • Every x minutes, Windows Security login screen pops up - VERY annoying
