Question

Q: Outlook Send Receive Error 0x800CCC18

After installing latest Windows Update this morning I got this error when checking my emails.

"Receiving reported error (0x800CCC18) : Your e-mail server rejected your login with Secure Password Authentication (SPA).  Verify your account properties.  Under Tools, click E-mail accounts"

I restored Windows prior to the update and the emails were working fine with no errors.  Just to make sure I ran the Windows update again and the same problem occurred.  Once again after restoring Windows the e-mails were working fine.

Something in the latest Windows update is causing a problem with Outlook?

Answer

A:

You need to remove a recent patch to Outlook that went bad for many people.

From http://networkdefend.blogspot.com/2010/12/bad-outlook-2007-update-kb-2412171.html

1) Close Outlook and any related applications (such as Google Calendar Sync).
2) Open Control Panel >> Add / Remove (or Uninstall) Programs.
3) Click Show Windows Updates or View Installed Updates (depends on your Windows version.)
4) Locate the Outlook update KB-2412171 and remove/uninstall it.
