Q: Outlook 2010 - Cannot Start Outlook, open window, OST Error


I have a user running Outlook 2010 and is receiving the following error when launches Outlook.


Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window.  Before you can use this Outlook data file you must connect to MS Exchange with the current profile and sync your folders at least once.


I have run a repair on Office and also ran the scanpst.exe browsing to the OST file which did nothing.  I'm not able to find any relevant info on the web so here I am asking the Experts :)

And you are using Exchange as your mail server?


With Outlook closed, rename the OST file (example: filename.ost_old) and try to open Outlook again. If Outlook opens successfully, it will recreate the OST file.  


Is this user in cached mode? Try turning cached mode off.


Scanpst.exe often has to be run multiple times, until it finds no errors to repair.
