Error 0x80042108 - Outlook cannot connect to your incoming POP3 email server and Error 0x800CCCOE - Outlook cannot synchronise subscribed folders and error cannot connect to the server.

My computer runs Windows 7 and I am having issues with Outlook 2010.  It has been working fine until a few weeks ago.  I had 3 email accounts set up - bigpond (which was subsequently deleted by their tech support when trying to fix the problem), gmail (IMAP) and optusnet (POP). For the optusnet email address I get error 0x80042108 - Outlook cannot connect to your incoming POP3 email server. For the gmail account I get error 0x800CCCOE - Outlook cannot synchronise subscribed folders and error cannot connect to the server.  My ISP ruled out a problem at their end as I could get emails using Windows Live Mail.  I have used that for a few weeks and now have an issue with that.

What antivirus software do you use? What firewall?

does it work if you start outlook in Safe mode? To open Outlook in Safe mode: Close Outlook then hold Ctrl as you click on the Outlook icon. You'll get a message asking if you want to start in Safe mode. Click Ok.
