All of a sudden, when I try to send an email to a distribution group I get an error message that says "an unexpected error has occurred" and I am unable to send the email. I have Outlook 2007 that has just been transferred to a new computer which was
not easy.
I found a way to solve this problem. I not only had to create a new list from scratch but then had to select it from the contacts list rather than just typing in the name. The automated selection will just bring up the old deleted list.

Yep, I have to actually select the DL from the Contacts list rather than just typing the name. I deleted the old DL and recreated and this didn't work. Chose from the Contacts list and VOILA!, Robert's your Father's Brother:-).
