Unable to send PDF using Outlook 2016, giving error message - no default mail client

"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request"  is the error message I am getting when sending a PDF attachment directly from Adobe Acrobat by clicking on the email icon.

However, I can send it as an attachment from Outlook.  The odd thing is if I create another email account (gmail) through Adobe Acrobat, it works and MS Outlook doesn't.

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling Office and Adobe, repairs, removing Outlook registry key and nothing works!

Hi Linda,

If you’re like most people, you have more than one email program on your computer. You can make Outlook a one-stop center for sending and receiving email, storing your contacts, and scheduling appointments. Kindly follow the steps below:

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. On the File tab, choose Options > General.
  3. Under Start up options, select the Make Outlook the default program for E-mail, Contacts, and Calendar check box.
  4. Click OK.

Please post back with the status of the issue. We will be glad to assist you further.

Hi Melowin,

Thank you for your response, but yes, Outlook is set as my default program and since this is a work account, it only has 1 email account which is Outlook.  I set up the gmail account just to test out the PDF attachment and it worked so I know it's not an Adobe issue, but rather a MS Outlook issue.

Yes, I have tried contacting Adobe with no avail.  Both techs were not able to help me resolve the issue after several hours on the phone/chat with them.

You're not suppose to contact Adobe support instead follow the steps provided by jwilfongAZ. Did you even check it?

Hi Dewdrop,  sorry I misunderstood but I tried the steps provided by jwilfongAZ and that didn't work either.  I also saw some other solutions in the same post but those didn't work either.  I am at a lost and my IT department couldn't even help.  Just told me to work around the issue for now..it worked before so I am really baffled as to why it changed?

Thanks!

Hello Ferdz Amp,

Thank you, I tried that also and it didn't work either.  I have tried associating a file type or program with a protocol also and it didn't work too.

Thank you.

Thank you for the response and for taking the time to apply the steps we have provided.

This could be related to not having the same bit version of the Office program and the PDF reader application that you are using. To further confirm this, are you using a 32-bit or a 64-bit version of Office?

Refer to this support article for more information regarding: Choose between the 64-bit or 32-bit version of Office.

We are eager on getting this resolved for you, we will wait for your feedback.

Had the same issue...Ensuring the correct version is installed on the PC resolves most things i.e. 32 bit/ 64 bit versions
