Outlook 2007 & Hotmail Connection Upgrade

Outlook 2007 gave me a message today saying that I needed to install an upgrade to the Outlook Connector.  I delayed at first, then realized I could not access my hotmail emails until I installed the upgrade, so I installed it.  I've since uninstalled it and reinstalled it a few times, and have uninstalled and reinstalled my hotmail account in Outlook.  No luck with any of that.  When I click on my hotmail account name in Outlook, I get a message "The set of folders cannot be opened.  An unexpected error has occurred.  MAPI was unable to load the information service msncon.dll.  Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured."  I have no idea how to do that.  Help!

Answer

Follow the steps to resolve the problem.

  1. Close Outlook.
  2. Go to Control Panel >> Programs and Features and uninstall “Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector”
  3. Install the appropriate OLC that matches your Outlook’s bitness here:

    32-bit: http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/D/B/8DBD3F8B-9D9E-4102-B454-078946571F1A/OutlookConnector.exe

    64-bit: http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/9/2/39282DEC-41D0-4B51-A02E-D47572006757/OutlookConnector.exe

You should have 14.0.5139.5001 installed which can be checked in Control Panel’s Programs and Features again.
