Outlook for Mac 2011 problem with Att/Yahoo email provider--keeps downloading same emails over and over

I have Outlook for Mac 2011, and my email provider, Att/Yahoo, has suddenly started downloading all my emails stored on the server to my computer over and over and over again. I keep copies of emails on the server since I sometimes need to access email remotely. So I do not want to turn off that option. I have archived the older emails to cut down on the number of emails sitting on the server, and that seemed to help at first. But now it is going crazy again, redownloading all the emails every few minutes. Help!
