Black Theme Unavailable in Office 2016

I have Office 2016 through work and am unable to use the Black theme.  I only have Colorful and Dark Grey.  I've updated Office, with no luck.  Frustrating as my coworkers have access to it, but I do not.  Please help.

Office Version: 16.0.7070.2028

Hi Pdf5,

To use the Black theme, please make sure you installed your Office 2016 applications with your Office 365 subscription, and have it up to date.

Meanwhile, you can do an Online Repair for your Office applications, and check the outcome. Open Control Panel > Programs and Features, select Office application and click Change > Online Repair > Repair.

Jiaxing Bian

Didn't work, I went to repair the apps and it just deleted all of my MS Office apps off my computer.  Had to reinstall.  No solution.

Hi Pdf5,

Thanks for your reply.

First, I would like to confirm the following,
1.  Do you change the theme by clicking File > Account > Options > General > Office theme?
2.  Can all applications not use the Black theme?

Also, if convenient, please try installing the latest version of Office applications by the following steps to see if there is any improvement:

1.  Download and installOffice Deployment Tool ( the Office 2016 version).
2.  Open the configuration.xml file and replace the original content with the following text:
=================================
<Configuration>
  <Add OfficeClientEdition="32" Branch="FirstReleaseCurrent">
    <Product ID="O365ProPlusRetail">
      <Language ID="en-us" />
    </Product>
  </Add>
  <Updates Enabled="TRUE" />
  <Display Level="None" AcceptEULA="TRUE" />
  <Logging Level="Standard" Path="%temp%" />
</Configuration>
=================================
Note: If you’d like 64 version of Office, you can replace 32 with 64.

3.  Press Windows + R keys and input cmd to run the cmd.exe as administrator.
4.  Navigate to the folder which is used to place Office Deployment Tool.
5.  Use the following command to download and install Office 2016:
    Setup.exe /download
    Setup.exe /configure

6.  For details about how to use Office Deployment Tool, you can refer to the following article:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219422.aspx

Please post back if you have any updates.

Regards,
Linda

Hi Linda

Why is that black theme only available with office 365 subscription?

I paid for office, but i am not allowed to use black theme because i don't have the subscription.

What the ****?? It's only a theme.

I used to defend Microsoft when people ridicule it and suggest to get other computer. Now i feel stupid.

Hi VivekDharmaraj,

As this article mentioned that This feature is only available if you have an Office 365 subscription.

I know this will be better if we can use the highest-contrast visual for our Office theme in every product. We would like to invite you to submit your feedback to Uservoice, this is the best way to perfect our service. There are many features came directly from customer's feedback.

Your understanding would be highly appreciated.

Linda

Hi,

I have a subscription to office 365 and for some time now I don't have black theme. It was there, I've used it, and it just disappeared and I cannot choose it anymore.

The funny part is that on other computer (license for 5 PCs) it's available and working fine.

Hi RafałMaculewicz,

As the article says that, please check if you have the latest update version of Office on this PC.

If the issue persists, I suggest you post a new thread to troubleshot it better and we are always here for you. In the new post, please provide the following information:

1. A screenshot of the Office version you are using.

2. Click File > Options, and capture a screenshot of the following page with us.

Thanks,
Linda

I have the same issue. Microsoft employees never seem to know how to fix these issues and regularly give out bad advice/instruction. Guy above had to reinstall all office apps after bad advice.

But lets all start new threads so that it doesn't appear like this is happening to more than one person ! wink
