Mac Team client does it support Notification?

The Mac Teams V1 client appear to have no notifications support. 

Both Skype for Business (on Mac and Mobile) and Teams for Mobile devices support notifications.

If Teams notifications on mobile device, you’ll get several types of notifications by default:

Chat notifications—when someone sends you a message in a one-on-one or group chat.

@mention notifications—when you, your team, or a channel you favorite are @mentioned.

Reply notifications—when someone replies to a message you’ve posted in a channel, or to a channel message you’ve already commented on.

Skype for Business on Mac support notification when application is in the background.

with option in preferences to play sound, bounce icon in the dock and display visual notifications.

Any chance of enable same notifications for Mac OS X client?

From your description, do you mean you want to get the notification in Teams for Mac like the following screenshot shows?

According to my test, you will get notification when you receive a message from a channel that you are following or in one-on-one chat. Given this situation, please double-check whether you have turned on the Teams notification by clicking your avatar > Settings > Notifications.

If the problem persists, please provide us a screenshot of your Teams version for further checking. You can click your avatar > About > Version to check it.
