Cannot Sign In to OneNote or OneDrive

For several weeks now I have not been able to sign in to OneDrive via OneNote.

I cannot access existing or start new notebooks.

When I click sign in, I am asked to enter my login email. I click continue, I then enter my password and click sign in. I am then taken back to the main page. This is all from within OneNote under New> New Notebook> OneDrive >Sign In.

Thanks

Hello,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for posting your query.

Please provide us more information for better assistance.

Are you able to log-in to OneDrive.live.com using browser?

If yes, I suggest you to refer to the below mentioned steps and check if you are able to open the OneNote notebooks from OneDrive.

  • Sign in to onedrive.live.com using browser.
  • Check and verify if you are able to view and edit the notebooks from there.
  • Right click on OneNote notebook and open with OneNote.

If you are able to sign-in through browser, I suggest you to try repairing Office application and check if it helps. Refer the following link.

https://support.office.com/en-US/Article/Repair-an-Office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b

Hope this helps. Post back with updated issue details for further assistance.

Thank you.

Hi!

I have the same problem. I called Microsoft Office team and they couldn't find out how to fix it.

I can connect to any website, and my OneNote is linked to my account, but i still can't log. See picture
Everytime i try to log, they take me back here(My IDs are good, i can log on the website). I tried repair/reinstall/different session. Nothing helped.

I can't have acces to my university's notes, which is very problematic.

Thanks for the help

Marc

This is the exact same issue as the one I have. I spent 3 hours on the phone with the Office team and they came to the conclusion it was a Windows problem. I have been given complementary premium tech support on my account so I will now contact the Windows team to see if we can get this problem sorted.

I have reinstalled Windows and still haven't managed to get it to work. I've just had to let go. The tech support on here is non existent and all they do is copy and paste from a guide or previous thread. I've spent 5 hours on the phone to them, they expect me to pay £64 to fix it. The issues clearly lies with Microsoft and there is nothing we can do. The tech support isn't willing to look into the issue so I will switch to evernote.

I manage get it to work. I found the setup file setuponenotefreeretail.x86.en-us in backup image.  The file name is same with the one you download from onenote, but this one install Office15. It work fine. Just enter your login detail and  it sync up. Something is wrong with onenote 2016 installer. The file should be about 1.1mb instead of 3.3 mb. Seriously thinking how get my notes to something else. Who know what they will do in future.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

I suggest you to click on OneNote> File> Account > User Information, sign out from all the account, start computer in clean boot, sign-in again using your credential and then check if OneNote work as expected.

Starting the computer in clean boot mode would disable all the non-Microsoft applications and the antivirus which could be one of the reasons for the issue.

Refer the article below to start the computer in clean boot.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Disclaimer: Ensure to restart the computer in normal mode after completing the troubleshooting steps.

I hope the above information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.
