Office 365 Redundancy and Backup

I was simply wondering if Microsoft runs backups for Office 365

If so how long is the backup retained and how would we access the backup for recovery purposes?

Currently using a combination of Office 365 Business Essentials and Office 365 Premium

Hi Will,

Microsoft has built in redundancy and backups in all of their data centers, but these backups are for internal data center recovery only, and not available to customers for restoring their data in the event of accidental or data loss. Once data is automatically or manually purged from the recycle bin, it will be gone forever. Here is an article on our approach.

Customers need to focus on the recovery strategy. The following is about the recovery strategy for 2 key services “Exchange Online” and “SharePoint Online”:

1. How to recover deleted messages in a user's mailbox

2. If you need to restore a deleted item (doc, list items, site), you can use the Recycle Bin. Now customers will have 90 days to recover deleted documents, lists, list items, sites, or even full site collections.

3. When you delete most objects in SharePoint, they’re moved to one of two Recycle Bins: one bin for the site or workspace, and the other for the entire site collection. The Recycle Bins provide a safety net from which deleted objects can be restored.

4. If you want to restore previous versions of documents, please use versioning check feature.

5. If you want to restore deleted site collections, you can check the following article to get detailed steps:
