Transfer Office 365 from GoDaddy to Microsoft

I am with a small company with legacy Exchange support from GoDaddy (and now with Office 365 for Business Essentials).

We are not happy with Exchange hosting / Office 365 with GoDaddy any more.  They require us to login multiple times during the day through their portal, disrupting OneDrive, Outlook, etc. whereas Microsoft, when using them directly, does not seem to have these issues (I manage a couple of other Office 365 installations for a couple of non-profits which work great).

It's getting to the point now where the boss is ready to cutover from GoDaddy despite the fact we have an additional 18 months left of service with them.

We have a relatively small footprint with OneDrive accounts and SharePoint sites (SharePoint, Planner, Groups), but we have some infrastructure there.

We do have many years worth of e-mail in a couple of accounts on the Exchange server which we do not want to lose, and we would like to have a seamless transition of e-mail so that our clients and staff are not impacted.

Anyone who has done this have any experience and pointers you can provide?

Thanks!

Hi Bryan,

I understand that you want to move your emails in the Office 365 tenant hosted in GoDaddy to the new Office 365 tenant hosted in Microsoft. If you have Outlook clients, you can let the users export the email data into PST files in the Outlook clients. Then when they use the new accounts in the Office 365 tenant hosted in Microsoft, they can import these PST files into the new account in the Outlook clients.
I noticed that you said you are now with Office 365 Business Essentials, there would be no Office applications including Outlook. So I would suggest you use import service to import the PST files into the new accounts. Here are some articles for your reference:

Actually we are on a hosted Exchange plan, which includes 10 mailboxes, etc. as well as Outlook.

We would establish Office 365 for Business Premium with MSFT to get our apps/.

But it sounds like there is no way to actually transfer services, so we would need to export PST files, transfer domain from GoDaddy to MSFT, then import PST files for e-mail, and then transfer whatever files and re-establish our SharePoint sites, Groups, Planner details, etc.

Is this correct?

Hi Bryan,

Sorry for the delay.
Your understanding is correct. You will need to export PST files, move the domain from GoDaddy to MSFT, and then import the PST files in Outlook. Also transfer data of other services.
