Hi SALES TEAM,

To deactivate an user account (end user or admin), you will need admin credentials. Please go to https://portal.office.com > Admin> Users> Active users> select the user in question> … > Delete user.

If you want to delete your Office 365 tenant, from the admin page, go to Billing> Products & services and click on delete subscription next to the Office 365 for business product. The tenant will be deleted in 3 days, during which you will be able to revoke the process. Please note that the action will delete all content from your Office 365 organization.

If you have further questions, please let me know.

Best regards,

Nemanja

Hi Nemanja

I'm sorry to crash into this thread, but I have same question.

For some reason my email address is attached to a MICROSOFT BUSINESS ACCOUNT (tenant) - I really don't know why.

This prevent me from purchasing an office license. I tells me that my email address is already connected to a tenant, so I should just add office to this existing tenant.

I don't want to do this because I didn't create the tenant and I don't know what garbage is customised with it.

This was the background for me to reopen this thread.

If I follow your suggestion (go to Billing> Products & services and delete subscription) I get a page saying something like "There was found no result" (translated from Danish).

So there is a tenant with absolutely no Products and Services. How can I completely delete this tenant?

Best regards

Thomas

i cant seems to get to this stage -  Admin> Users> Active users>, what should i do?

To deactivate an user account (end user or admin), you will need admin credentials. Please go to https://portal.office.com > Admin> Users> Active users> select the user in question> … > Delete user.

If you want to delete your Office 365 tenant, from the admin page, go to Billing> Products & services and click on delete subscription next to the Office 365 for business product. The tenant will be deleted in 3 days, during which you will be able to revoke

the process. Please note that the action will delete all content from your Office 365 organization.

If you have further questions, please let me know.

Best regards,

Nemanja

Hi,
I have a similar problem and an honest question.
1) I want to disable my work account without effecting my normal private account.
I am not an admin and I never was. I do not know of any admin that I could contact because (->2)
2) How did I obtain this work account in the first place?
I generated this account for private and professional use of Skype, nothing else.
There is no admin, there is no boss, there is no one I could ask to delete the (seemingly randomly created) work account.

Thanks for your help.
Best regards,
B

PS) I am shocked in what desolate state the account and online infrastructure of microsoft is.
The UX is so confusing
- management of products
- randomly generated handles (my skype identifier, minecraft names)
- necessity of repeated logins
- miscommunication and misinformation
it is literally not differentiable from pishing.

Edit: orthography

If somebody needs a specific guideline, then this works well:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/commerce/close-your-account?view=o365-worldwide

-->

Step 1: Delete users

Delete all users except for one global administrator who completes the steps to close the account. Before you can delete the directory at the end of this process, you must delete all other users.

If users are synchronized from on-premises, first turn off sync, then delete the users in the cloud directory by using the Azure portal or Azure PowerShell cmdlets.

To delete users, see User management admin: Delete one or more users.

You can also use the Remove-MsolUser PowerShell cmdlet to delete users in bulk.

If your organization uses Active Directory that synchronizes with Azure AD, delete the user account from Active Directory, instead. For instructions, see Bulk delete users in Azure Active Directory.

Step 2: Cancel all active subscriptions
  1. In the admin center, go to the Billing > Your products page.

  2. If the subscriptions list is in Table view, on the right, select Cards.

  3. Find an active subscription, and in the Settings & Actions section, select Cancel subscription.

  4. Follow the prompts to finish the process.

  5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 to cancel all active subscriptions.

Step 3: Delete all disabled subscriptions
  1. In the admin center, go to the Billing > Your products page.

  2. If the subscriptions list is in Table view, on the right, select Cards.

  3. Next to Subscription status, select Disabled.

  4. Find a disabled subscription, and in the Settings & Actions section, select Delete.

  5. In the Delete subscription dialog box, select the I understand the impact check box, then select Delete subscription.

  6. For each disabled subscription, repeat steps 4 and 5 until all subscriptions have been deleted.

Step 4: Disable multi-factor authentication
  1. In the admin center, go to the Users > Active users page.

  2. Choose Multi-factor authentication.

  3. On the multi-factor authentication page, disable all accounts except for the global admin account that you're currently using.

You can also use PowerShell to disable multi-factor authentication for multiple users.

Step 5: Delete the directory in Azure Active Directory
  1. Sign in to the Azure AD admin center with a Global Administrator account.

  2. Select Azure Active Directory.

  3. Switch to the directory you want to delete.

  4. Select Delete directory.

  5. If your directory fails one or more checks, you see a link to more information on how to pass the checks. After you pass all checks, select Delete to complete the process.

After you complete this final step, your account with Microsoft is closed and deleted.

Hello everyone!

I have no subscriptions, licenses, users, etc.

But I still cannot delete a tenant with the reason "Delete all license-based subscriptions".

I fallowed all available guidelines for both MS365 and AAD.

Cannot find anything that prevents deletion of the tenant.

It seems something wrong is happening.

I've decided to ask in this thread first before opening a new one.

I am attempting to close down our Business MS365 account. We stopped it because of various reasons. I attempted to Delete the only user "*** Email address is removed for privacy ***", and I was greeted with a response: "You cannot delete your own account."

So how do I stop (Delete)  the Business account (and the billing I am being warned about that still seems to be in effect)? We are currently reverted to Family accounts to give our staff needed software from Microsoft. Those accounts are not tied in to the Business accounts.
