Install Office 365 on terminal server

Dear Office 365 Team,

Can you please advise.

One of our customer is trying to Install Office 365 on terminal server but he received an error message saying that this version of office can’t be run on terminal server. Is there a way to run office on that terminal server?

Thank you for assistance and support.

Kind Regards,

Nadeem

Hi Nadeem,

Does the customer encounter the error message in the link below?
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2810023

If yes, this is an expected behavior as Click-to-Run versions of Office programs or suites can't be installed on a server that's running Remote Desktop Services(formerly known as Terminal Services).

As a workaround, you can let the customer install Office with shared computer activation. Please refer to the link below about the steps:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn782858.aspx

If this is not the situation, please share a screenshot about the error message with us.

Best Regards,
Vincent

Dear Vincent.

I trust all is well.

We have checked that the customer have Office 365 Business Premium which does not include the Feature called "Shared Computer Activation".

 As per the following table.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office-applications-service-description.aspx

Please tell me what are the options customer have because he is interested in deployment of Office 365 on RDS.

Thank you for your support and assistance.

Best Regards, Nadeem

hi nadeem,

yes, you are right. you must have an office 365 plan that includes office 365 proplus to use shared computer activation. since office 365 business premium does not have office 365 proplus, it cannot use the shared computer activation feature.  please refer to this link: troubleshoot issues with shared computer activation for office 365 proplus.

according to this article: office 365 plan options, for office 365 business plan, e3, e4 and e5 have the office 365 proplus.  besides, we also have standalone office 365 proplus plan which include office 365 proplus. on this scenario, you could switch the office 365 business premium to one of the three plans or purchase the standalone office 365 proplus plan to get office 365 proplus., then you can use the shared computer activation feature on rds.

the detailed steps to switch plans in office 365 can be found in switch to a different office 365 for business plan

best regards,
jared
