Cannot activate Office 365 because of unknown subcription error.

Sometime after Office 365 upgraded to ProPlus on my computer and my brother's, activation error messages popped up. We would go under file>account>activate product, but when we signed in another error message came up saying, "We've run into a problem with you Office 365 subscription, and we need your help to fix it." This provided a link to our online account page which showed no problems and no way to fix the subscription error. Since both our accounts are through the same university we though it might have to do with our subscription through them?
We've uninstalled Office completely, reinstalled it, and repaired it; this changed nothing except now we have an "unlicensed product" banner. How can we figure out what is wrong with our subscription and fix it?

Hi Aubree,

From your description, the issue may happen when the Office apps are not activated correctly. You can try the following methods to check the outcome:

1. Open Word > File > Account > User Information. Check if you've signed the Office apps with your proper Office 365 subscription account.

2. Update Office apps to the latest: In the Product Information page > Update Options > Update Now.

3. Run Office as administrator: Close all Office apps > click Start > search Word > in the search result, right click the Word icon and select "Run as administrator" > Try to reactivate Office by selecting the Reactivate button (if shown in a banner) or go to File > Account > Activate Product.

4. By saying "repair it", please check if you are using the Online Repair mentioned in this article: Repair an Office application. If not, please give it a try to see the outcome.

For detailed information, please refer to: Unlicensed Product and activation errors in Office.

If the issue persists, please let us know the following information so we can assist you further:

1. The screenshot of your Office 365 license page: https://portal.office.com/account/#subscriptions.

2. Go to Office 365 install page https://portal.office.com/account/#installs to see if the install number is reached 5.

Jared
