Q: office 2010 update packages error 17044 This thread is locked from future replies

Hi,

On some of our computers we see that the Office 2010 updates will not install anymore through Windows Update. When we try to install these update packages manually it returns an error 17044. According to the Microsoft Technet page Error codes for Office 2010 update packages the error message is "Installer was unable to run detection for this package.". In the eventlog of the affected computers and in the verbose Windows Installer log file, which were created during the manual installation, we can not find any clue's for the reason of these errors.

Why won't these upates install and how can we fix these problems? The only solution we found was removing and installing office 2010.

Regards,

William Spu

Answer

A:

To better understand can you let us know if the computers are connected to a Network, Domain or a workgroup.

1.       The possible cause is if the contents of the C:\Windows\Installer folder have been deleted or missing.

2.       This might also occur if there are any patches missing under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Patches.

By repairing MS Office 2010, the corrupted installation files will be replaced, if the repair does not work, the Uninstalling and re-installing Office 2010 will fix the issue.

The issue you posted would be better suited in the TechNet community if the computers are connected to a Network or Domain:

Did this solve your problem?

Sorry this didn't help.
