Office 2007 install fail with error code 1305

When installing Office 2007 in Windows XP Home Edition I receive the following error message: Error 1305 set-up cannot read file. I am further advised to check the network drive connection, however, I am installing from a folder on the hard drive or via download from Microsoft.

Is winxp up to date with important updates?

Have you run disk cleanup, then rebooted?

Are you installing one of these versions, from here, http://www.microsoft.com/office/downloads/

Reboot the system in  clean boot  then try to download and install Office 2007.

Note: After you have finished installing in clean boot, ensure you restart the computer in normal mode.

Been there and done that as far as clean boot; I have also installed WindownsInstaller 4.5 with no change in the result. I am thinking that there must be an error in the resgistry with installer files.  Is that possible after updating to 4.5?
