Failed to connect to database. An underlying database error occurred. Class not registered.
I am using ArcGIS 9.3x software from ESRI (Environment System Research Institute). I am on Windows 7 64 bit edition and I am also using 64 bit edition of Office 2010. While I try to add X Y tools in ArcGIS from an Excel Sheet saved with Office 2010 (.xlsx)
I come across an error saying that "Failed to connect to database. An underlying error occurred. Class not registered". However I was from the add X Y tool I am able to add an excel 2003 format file. I have installed 64bit access database engine via
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=13255. This did not solve the problem. I have posted in the ESRI Forum
http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/6880-.XLSX-PROBLEM-Failed-to-Connect-to-Database-Class-Not-Registered but I havn't seen any feasible solution yet. So I posted here in the Microsoft forum to see if some one can assist me to solve this issue. If I uninstall
Office 2010 64 bit edition and install 32 bit edition will it help me to solve this issue? Any suggestion to solve this problem is more than welcome.

after it I deleted 'GxObjFactCache.dat' by following instroction
1. Close all ArcGIS applications - ArcMap and ArcCatalog. 2. Open Windows Explorer and browse to \Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\ESRI\ArcCatalog ** 3. Delete the "GxObjFactCache.dat" file This file will be re-created next time ArcCatalog starts.
and then it worked well...
