Cannot Open XLSX Documents after Installing Office 2010?

I can create .xlsx documents with Excel 2010, however I cannot open them when I place them in a folder or desktop. The only means for me to open these documents is to Open Excel 2010. Once this program is open, I can select "file" then "open" and find the file and open it.

I should be able to open these files without having to open Excel first.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Dan

Dear Guys

I also faced the same issue and, thanks guys but after digging through the registry i found the key under xlsx was wrong. The openwithprogid was wrong it was  something like exel_auto_fil rather than excel.sheet.12. Dont know how much $ we need to spend before microsof tech support will help but $25,000 on office alone isnt enough :-(

Follow the steps to resolve it

run: regedit

go to : HKEY_CURRENT_USER ==>Software ==>Microsoft ==>Windows ==>

CurrentVersion ==> Explorer ==> FileExts ==> .xlsx ==> OpenWithProgrids

cick right mouse
add New ==> Binary Value ==> name the binary value as ===> Excel.Sheet.12

click ok

Same you can do it for docx ==> Word.Document.12  if its not opening properly with Office 2010

Good luck
