Trouble with new computer build and running Excel.

I just finished building a new computer with an MSI mobo and a Ryzen 3800x CPU, with 32gbs of DDR4 memory, and an RTX 2080; but my computer has extreme difficulty running Excel 2019 on Windows 10. The task manager shows the process alternating between suspended and not responding. I've tried the following:

1. Running Excel in safe mode.

2. Quick repair of office.

3. Web repair of office.

4. Uninstall/reinstall, both regularly and with the MS software removal tool.

5. Restarting my computer.

6. Turning off any overclocking or XMP RAM profiles.

I've spent roughly 5 hours over the passed few days troubleshooting this. I think it might have something to do with the new AMD chipset drivers and/or my motherboard compatibility. This is my last reach for help, but if I can't figure out a solution, I'll be forced to return my new build and go through the painstaking rebuild process with a tried and true intel processor/mobo. I switched over to Ryzen because of the price to power ratio and benchmark research, but my $1500 desktop runs excel slower than a $200 Chromebook right now. Any ideas would be appreciated.

P.S. - Oddly enough, the other applications seem to run amicably: Word, PP, etc.

Hi Christouphr,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I hope that you are having a good day despite the issue that you are encountering with Excel.

There might be a compatibility issue with the hardware and the newly built computer. I highly suggest that you contact the OEM of either hardware components, which are Ryzen or MSI mobo.

Hi Christouphr

Did you get anywhere with MSI/AMD with this issue?

I have exactly the same problem

MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC board and AMD Ryzen 7 3700X

Word, Powerpoint, Access, etc boot in a split second.

Excel takes 20 seconds to boot and similar to close.

thanks

Solution: Just found it! It is the Nahimic on board sound program that causes a conflict. don't know of a fix yet other than uninstalling Nahimic.

Hey there Rog,

After hours of troubleshooting, I did find out that it was the (add-on) software that's included with the motherboard. It's not a pre-installed or hardware issue per se, but once you install certain applications, it conflicts with Microsoft Excel. As mentioned by JSaltz below, it might be Nahimic, but I went ahead and uninstalled MSI Dragon center altogether. I can't tell you exactly what the issue is, but I can guarantee you that it has something to do with how those two programs interact.

I double checked my work through multiple installations and 2 different iterations of MS Office. Oddly enough, for anyone who experiences this problem in the future, it's the Excel application only. If you have Office 365 and work on your templates on a browser, you won't experience this issue. If you install office before MSI Dragon Center, it works flawlessly.

Fantastic!

Excel now works perfectly for me too

I uninstalled Nahimic first and that did the trick

Many thanks for posting the solution Christouphr
