Excel: Run-time error 2147418113 (8000ffff); Could not set the curline property. Unexpected call to method of property access.

I did a reformat last week and did ALL the updates available.

Running Win XP Home Edition  Microsoft 2003 with 2007 upgrade.

EVERY time I open an Excel file I get a Run-time error 2147418113 (8000ffff); Could not set the curline property. Unexpected call to method of property access.

I "repaired" both Office programs, yet I still get the error code. If I hit "help" nothing happens.  If I hit "end," then the file opens promptly.

Since this was a clean install of the programs I can only surmise that it's something haywire with the updates.  Can anyone offer any suggestions of how to remedy this?  I've tried opening files and renaming but the problem remains. I've looked at solutions online but the involve programming and I'm not a programmer.
