Excel 2007 - Cannot open clipboard

Hello,

I have a 32-bit Windows 7 machine with Microsoft Office 2007. Excel will initially copy and paste just fine, but eventually and rather quickly it will begin throwing an error: "Cannot open clipboard". This happens even when copying a single cell. Trying to "Undo" an action seems to cause this problem faster and more frequently.

I have disabled all add-ins. Clearing out the %temp% folder seems to resolve the issue in the short term but eventually the problem resurfaces.

Any information on this issue is appreciated.

Thank you.

Try to open Excel in safe mode. If you can open Excel fine in safe mode, then disable the Add-ins in Excel.

Follow the steps to open Excel in safe mode.

Click on Start< All Programs< Accessories< Run< Type ‘Excel /safe’ (without quotes) and click on Ok

Note: There should be a space between excel and /)

How to disable Add-ins in Excel 2007:-

Step1: Click the Office Icon and Click Excel Options.

Step2: In the left hand side of the Excel Options dialog box, click Add-Ins.

Step3: Under ‘Manage’ Click the COM Add-ins

Step4: Uncheck all the Add-Ins listed under COM Add-ins.

Step5: Click close and restart Excel.

You may also refer the link and try to empty the clipboard and check if it helps.

As stated previously, all add-ins have been disabled.

I have looked over the thread mentioned and it is unresolved. I am not looking for a work around, I am looking for a fix. Our end users should not have to clear their %temp% folder every time their clipboard "fills".

Enable clip board and check if it’s full.

On the Home tab, in the Clipboard group, click the Clipboard Dialog Box Launcher.

As per the previous reference link the clipboard could not empty itself due to Skype add-in for internet explorer.

The clipboard only has one item in it when this occurs, the item being copied.

Again, all add-ins have been disabled. The computers do not have the Skype add-in.

Did you get the error message when you opened excel in safe mode?

If yes, uninstall office 2007 and re-install it and check if it helps:

You may uninstall office 2007 by running the fixit tool from the link given below:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301.

Note: Make sure that you have the disk and the product key for office 2007 before uninstalling it.

Yes, the error still occurs in safe mode. I'll attempt re-installing office later this week.

Had the same problem and tried dozens of so called solutions (reinstall, uncheck addins, registry, repair function, office diagnostic, and so on). Finally i found one which refer to a broken excel user profile and it works perfect. End Excel and navigate to "C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel". (you have to active "show hidden files") Delete all the content within this folder and restart Excel. Works perfect for me. Beside the "Cannot open the clipboard" message i had serveral other issues like crashes and non ending excel.exe process and so on. All problems were solved with this solution.
