Cannot open .xlsx file in Excel 2002

I cannot open .xlsx files in Excel 2002 even after downloading Microsoft - OfficeXP Compatibility Pack for office 2007.  I have XP Professional version 10.0.6626.0.  The Excel version is 10.0.6501.0.  How do I get Excel version 10.0.6809.0?

Check if you able to download the Excel Viewer from the link below and open the excel file.

As for not being able to open the file, provide the exact error message or code that comes up while you try to open the file.

I am unable to download the Excel viewer - it says I do not have administrative rights.  The error when trying to open the .xlsx file says - This file is not in a recognizable format and lists 3 bullets -

If you know the file is from another program which is incompatible with MS Excel, click cancel, then open in  its original application

If you suspect the file is damaged, click Help for more info.

If you still want to see what text is contained in the file, click OK.  I clicked OK but the info is gibberish.
