I can't open Excel files from our network drive on my computer, Error code: 0x80070002

I have a rather strange problem. Today my computer was working fine until I went to access a file on our network drive and I got the error:

Windows can not find [file path] Check the spelling of the name. otherwise there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose Error code: 0x80070002

So I reset the network drive, reset my computer and still got the same error. I can open all other file types, but not excel. Further more if I email the file I can open it online in hotmail but if I download it to my my desktop from the email I get the same error.

Other computers on the network can access the files so it seems like a problem isolated to my machine. Strange enough I can open and manipulate excel files on excel that were on my hard drive, just not any files that were on the network drive. Any suggestions???

Answer

Are you able to open the file if you just copy the file on to the Desktop from the network drive?

In Excel, go to Office button>Excel options>Advanced.

Under General section, make sure “Ignore other applications that use DDE” is unchecked.

If that does not resolve it, refer the link below and see if it helps.
