Can't merge Microsoft account with Samsung Account to use OneDrive to sync and back up my Samsung Galaxy S20+

Hello.

I am trying to merge my Micrososft Account with my Samsung Account to sync and backup my new Samsung phone. There is some problem with my OneDrive to do this.

When I create new microsoft account, I can merge it with Samsung account no problem. My original Microsoft account can't merge. I have OneDrive 1TB and Office 365 subscription trough family group. Also, my laptop is connected to my original microsoft account and use Onedrive to sync my files from laptop. Those are the only differences between new and original micrososft accounts.

Any ideas?

I contacted onedrive support - they say, there is no problem. I say, there is.

Thanks for an answer.

Radek

I found the problem. You need to turn of 2FA on microsoft account to merge accounts.

Any updates? Microsoft also answers me that things are ok and samsung does not provide a personal support, only auto messages not related to the issue.

2 factor authentication is not turned on in my Microsoft account. I have roughly 500GB of data in my Office 365 OneDrive. My Note 9 and then Note 20 Ultra both worked with OneDrive seamlessly until Android 11 update. Autosync stopped working. With hindsight, I made the mistake of unlinking the Microsoft account and can no longer relink. Same problem on an old tablet - can't link. Note that I can link the phone to an older free OneDrive 5GB account that I still have some data in. The OneDrive app on the phone can connect to the larger OneDrive - it's the Samsung account that can't connect. So I can still share photos to OneDrive. As an alternative, I downloaded OneSync and it succeeded in syncing OneDrive and Gallery - but not keen on continuing with the app and its manual linking of folders. I might try Solid Explorer File Manager if this nightmare continues. In this era where Samsung and Microsoft are seeking to seamlessly link their platforms (DEX and other measures) this should not be happening.

A similar situation for me, I can not log in to the microsoft account on the galaxy phone or by edge, link to windows or one drive, then there is an error and they will ask me to try again but it does not work, I will add that I cleaned the phone case in recovery mode

To anyone still struggling with this, i mucked around a bit and figured this out, and it worked for me.

Go settings, search samsung account, open that. Scroll to the bottom, click linked accounts, select Microsoft account, click unlink. Approve that, then go back to files, go to do the transfer, login to your other account and it should go through.

My issue is it apparently paired to my uni account, and I didn't really want to upload the content of my phone to my uni account, so needed to link to my personal.

Hope it helps x
