Many Wizards not working Access 2013

Windows 7 Professional 64bit

Access 2013 32Bit

Office Standard 2013 32Bit

I am having a pretty serious issue with my installation of Access 2013.  No matter what I do I can not get the many of the (if not all) of the wizards to work.  None of the Create Wizards work Many of the import/Export data wizards work.  I have tried the following to fix:

  1. Did a Repair on the installation
  2. Reinstalled (several times now)
  3. Made sure C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\ACCWIZ.DLL was registered successfully (It was)
  4. checked the trust center to make the Wizard Databases were in a trusted location (They are)

I am at my wits end here and can not find anything else to try.  Can anybody help me out with this.  I need Access to be working 2 days ago.....

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Please let me know if you need any other information.

Thank you!,

~J

Not working is a broad term...  Which Wizard are you using and what is happening?  Please provide all the steps you taking... oh, are you creating a client/desktop database or a web app?

Thank you for the Reply Gina!!

Hopefully the following will give you a bit more insight.

  • It is a Desktop Database
  • Query Wizard
    • Click on Query Wizard (Under Create Tab, in the Queries Section)
    • Choose Simple Query Wizard
    • Click OK
    • Window Goes away and nothing else happens
  • Form Wizard
    • Click on Form Wizard (Under Create Tab, in the Forms Section)
    • Nothing at all Happens, except the screen sort of... Blinks.
  • Report Wizard
    • Click on Report Wizard (Under Create Tab, in the Reports Section)
    • Nothing at all Happens, except the screen sort of... Blinks.
  • Import Excel And/or Text File (My understanding is that this a Wizard as well, although not called as such)
    • Click on Excel or Text File Icon (Under External Data Tab, In Import & Link Section)
    • Browse to and choose the file you want to import, Click Open.
    • Choose any of the three option, under where you want to store the data in the database
    • Click OK
    • Source and Data Window Disappears and nothing else happens, data not imported.
      • As a side note the only thing so far I can get to work in the "Import & Link" Section is linking to a ODBC database.  I haven't had the need or oppurtunity to try the other options in that section.
  • Export Text File
    • Click on Text File Icon (Under External Data, In Export Section).
    • Browse to the folder you want to save the file to and click Save.
    • Leave all the Export Options Blank (I do that because I need a Comma Delimited File)
    • Click OK
    • Window Disappears and nothing else happens.
      • As a side note The Excel Export does work???   I haven't had the need or oppurtunity to try the other options in that section.

In all cases where files are involved I have tried Multiple files and have tried importing them into multiple Desktop Databases.

Also one more thing I forgot to mention the first time is that Access always want to configure itself, annoying as it is I would live with it if I could the other stuff working!!

I hope this sheds a little more light for you and also gives you some ideas for what may possibly be wrong.

Thanks Again!,

~J

Hmm, okay let's start at the beginning...

Access configuring itself means you have more than one version installed.  That does not mean just Access it could be more than one version of Office.  So, what was the prior version?  When you installed did you accept the Default Location or did you point it to a new location?

I am going to assume you have Tables in your Database?  Does the Table icon have a little globe on it?

I just noticed you have Office Standard, so you purchased Access 2013 separately?  Please confirm.

And Access 2013 32Bit as a Seperate install

Also Had Office 2000 suite on this machine but I un-installed before I installed either of the above.

Default Location was used.

My ODBC table have the Globe Icon

My tables created in the Desktop Database look litte spreadsheet icons....

Hope that helps!!

Hmm, okay there is something wrong...  Unless you open another version of Access/Office on the same machine it should not do the reinstall.  It only does this when opening different versions on the same machine.  So, right away there is a problem since you uninstalled Office 2000.  Might be there are still remnants and that is interfering with your Access 2013 install.

If it were me I would...

1. Confirm Office 2000 and all remnants have been uninstalled

2. Go to the folder where the Wizards are and rename all the extensions to .OLD

3. Run a Repair for Access 2013 making sure to select Custom insuring all the items are confirmed to install (Run from machine).

Try again...

Hi Gina,

So i tried the above.  Checked in Programs and Features under the control Panel to be sure there were no old remnants of Office 2000 sticking around and there was nothing.  Renamed the wizards, then ran the repair and still no Dice.  When I start Access It is still doing the configuration step and the wizards still do not work exactly as mentioned above.

Is there another way to go back and see if I missed something from the old Office 2000 installation?

This is baffling...

1. How does Microsoft Access show up under Program & Features?

2. Have you ever installed the Access Runtime, any version, on your machine?  If it is still installed you should uninstall and then run the Repair again.

3. Have you tried to navigate to the folder and open Access, MSACCESS.EXE, from there?  Does the same thing happen?

Depending on the answer to the above the only other thing that comes to mind is to uninstall completely, reboot and then reinstall.

Hi Gina,

Yeah I thought this maybe a tuff one, thank you for sticking with it thus far!!!

  1. Access is showing up as Microsoft Access 2013, right next to Microsoft Office Standard 2013.
  2. No never installed access runtime, but i do have SQL server Runtime on this machine...  One of my other programs uses it.
  3. Hadn't thought of running it straight from the Executable (MSACCESS.EXE) but just did.  Unfortunately it gave me the same results.

I have tried un-install re-install process several times with no success....  Any other ideas?
