Word unexpectedly switches to Draw Ribbon

I'm using Microsoft Word 365 MSO (16.0.12730.20252) 64-bit on Windows 10 Pro Version 1909 (Build 18363.836). For the past month or so, I've noticed while editing that Word will unexpectedly switch from the Home Ribbon to the Draw Ribbon.

I've tried various means to understand what triggers the switch; I've even videotaped an editing session. One thing that seems to trigger a switch is a Windows 10 Notification (toast) with an image in it. But it doesn't always happen with a notification, and sometimes it happens when I'm sure there hasn't been a notification.

Has anyone seen this annoying behavior? Any idea how to stop it?

Hi Ironick,

My name is Robert, an Independent Advisor and an expert user.

The behavior of MS Work switching from Home to Draw ribbon was an issue I've experienced before.

Initially, I tried customizing my ribbon by following the steps in the Help Center article https://support.office.com/en-us/article/custom....

If the above customization does not work, I do suggest you uninstall the program and reinstall later. This will allow all the settings to be switch back to default.

For your reference, steps on how to uninstall and reinstall can be found on the articles below:

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/uninst....

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/downlo....

I hope the above information helps. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Other than that, have a great time ahead!

Sincerely,

Robert

I would recommend using Repair rather than uninstalling.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your reply. I'm relived to hear that I'm not the only one who has experienced this weird problem. I don't really feel like going through the hassle of reinstalling (or repairing) Word right now. Instead, I am simply hiding the Draw Tab entirely, since I rarely use it. I'll repost here in a few days if that eliminates the problem.

Thanks Charles. See my response to Robert. If I do decide to take more drastic measures, I will try Repair first, and then Reinstall.
