Hi! EFFA LOIC BARTHELEMY,
Welcome to the Microsoft Community!
I realize that you've encountered a problem with Error message when starting Word and I understand how you feel.
Often, the Word application not working properly can be related to a third party plugin or a corruption in your Word application. For now I suggest you try the following repair steps first to see if they work:
1. registry reset office (please note that this method will restore your Office applications to their initial state, if you have previously installed some add-ons they will also be reset and you will need to reinstall the add-ons you need afterwards)
Press Windows + R and in the run box that opens type: regedit, then press enter.
Locate the following keys and rename the Office folder (right-click on it and choose Rename, e.g. rename Office to Officeold)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office
Then re-open the Word document to try the effect.
Disclaimer: Modifying the registry or workgroups is usually geared towards advanced users, administrators, and IT professionals, and it can help fix some problems, however, improper registry modifications can cause serious problems. Therefore, please make sure to follow the steps below strictly. For further protection, make a backup of the registry before modifying it. For more information on how to backup and restore the registry, please refer to: How to back up and restore the registry in Windows - Microsoft Support
2. If the above method of resetting Office applications does not work, please try to use the online repair function of Office, the steps of online repair are as follows:
a. Please right-click on the bottom left corner ("Start" button, which is the Windows logo), and then select "Installed Applications" in the pop-up menu.
b. Select the Microsoft Office product you want to repair, click the ellipsis, and then select "Modify/Modify". (If modifying only Word and Excel doesn't work, please repair the whole Office.)
c. Depending on the type of Office installation (point-and-click or MSI-based), you will see Quick repair and Online repair. Please choose Online Repair.
For detailed instructions on online repair, please refer to the link: Repair an Office application - Microsoft Support
If none of the above steps work, could you please provide the following information so that I can troubleshoot the problem further?
1. Please provide a complete screenshot of the error message.
2. Please provide the detailed version information of the Office application you are currently using: If you can open Excel/PowerPoint normally, please open Excel/PowerPointdocument > click on File in the upper left corner > click on Account in the lower left corner, and provide me with a screenshot of the complete page (If the screenshot contains private information, please mask it and upload it)
Thank you for your understanding and patience and I look forward to hearing from you.
Best Regards
Eddy | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
