Try resetting word to defaults. In the link below there is an easy fix to download with a blue button towards the middle of the page. Shut down Word run the fix and then start word again to see if that works.

If that does not work. Try repairing office:

Click on the Start button in Windows, or type control panel in the search bar. Click on uninstall a program, click on Microsoft Office and click change at the top menu. Try a quick repair first and if that does not work try an online repair.

Please let me know if that helps

Hi,

I'm Diego Rios, an Independent Advisor willing to help other Microsoft customers.

Go to Control Panel >> Add and Remove Programs and highlight Microsoft Office. Click on Remove. A menu will pop up allowing you to choose repair or reinstall. Try a Repair Online and verified after repair it fix.

Also, you can try to repair from The link below:

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/repair...

In case after the repair the word still didn't work you can try the procedures in the link below:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/921541...

Please let me know if this helped and works.

Best Regards,

Diego R.

Has anyone successfully resolved this?

I have done everything - online repair, offline, uninstall, re-install, deleted registry keys... nothing works

No matter what you try, this is the end result.

I removed Office 365 and tried Office Home and Student 2016 - same error.

I tried different user accounts too - all the same error

See the KnowledgeBase article "How to troubleshoot problems that occur when you start or use Word" at:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/921541

or, see the Article “Why do I get a "stopped working message when I start my Office application at:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/why-cant-i-start-my-office-2013-application-HA104011864.aspx

Or

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3091375

If that does not help, then you might remove all traces of the Office installation by downloading the fixit from the following article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

saving it to your computer and then running it.

Then, after re-starting your computer, reinstall Office by logging into www.office.com/myaccountwith your registered email address and click Install Office.

BEFORE REMOVING THE OFFICE INSTALLATION,  MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO LOG INTO YOUR ACCOUNT AND THAT OFFICE IS ASSOCIATED WITH IT!

If you actually have Office (locally installed) rather than the subscription version provided through Office 365, then you can't get Office through your Microsoft Account. Instead, see
