Can anybody help me diagnose and fix why my Word 2007 keeps closing spontaneously after using it for a while. Word will also close instantaneously within 1-2 seconds of opening or when I click on a Word file to open Word. Also, my screen flickers sometimes.
I use Windows XP and have an IBM ThinkPad, T60. My virus software company, ESET Nod 32, has looked at my laptop and has stated I do not have a virus. Microsoft Fix it Center and Tune Up Utilities have not diagnosed anything. I have not installed any new
software. The problem has been happening for about a month now.
This spontaneously closing problem also happens when I use browsers Mozilla and Chrome but it does not happen as often as when I use Word. I cannot use Word at all sometimes. After using another word processor for a bit, I can open Word and use it for a bit
before the problem reappears. Any help and ideas are greatly appreciated by me and my family. All three of our IBM laptops are affected with this problem.

Start Word in safe mode and check how it works.
To do that, close Word. Click on Start – All Programs – Accessories – Run, and in the open box type in winword /safe and hit ok. (Note: There is a space between winword and /).
If application safe works, then refer to the steps mentioned in the following article and check:

If issue persists, you may restart the system in Windows clean boot and check the results.
Note: Make sure you restart the system back to Normal mode after troubleshooting.
