Word cant print selected range or individual pages

Hello.

I just finished almost one hour talk with Microsoft Support Team member, who couldnt help me with this issue, and directed me to this page to post my problem.

Word simply refuses to print a simple 1-2 page range in short 4 pages document. There are no sections inside, and no matter if I try to print to printer or to pdf, it just doesnt do anything.

I can print whole document without any problem, but when I select specific page or page range it does nothing.

Things we tried with Microsoft Support were : Word app update, online repair, copying text to fresh document, printing with sections (s1p1-s3-3 etc). Nothing worked.

Things that works fine are : printing whole document, printing current page and exporting pages to pdf/xml.

Currently I am working with different file with same problem.

3 Pges of vertical text, with page numbers in footer.

Deleting page numbers helps. When I add page numbers back, printing doesnt work anymore

Hi Charles,

Since we haven’t received a report about this behavior yet, we can't make sure that Jarosław's problem is a known issue like Stefan mentioned.

If it's a bug, we will try to reproduce it on our side with the same version. And from Jarosław's reply, we know that the problem only happens on a specific environment.

Best regards,

Jazlyn

It was reported to the Product Team on 21 August and acknowledged by them as a bug in a communication received on 25 August.

The problem arose during updating of some of the very old processes used by Word to make use of more modern coding architectures and practices that will allow the introduction of new features that would not be possible with the old coding, some of which is now going on being 40 years old.

Just reverting to the old code would preclude the introduction of new features and unfortunately, it takes time to work out the bugs in the new code. Too much time many of us would say, but, in the meantime, the work-around for us is to revert to an earlier version and build of our current Office installation or open the document in Word OnLine and print from there.

Hope this helps,

Hi Jarosław,

Thank you for spending your precious time testing on your side and sharing in this thread.

And I tested it on our side, we can't reproduce it. However, I researched more about this behavior, I found some threads which many members said that they have the similar problem on their side, and they have reported this problem to related team.

Given this situation, we recommend you report this issue to Word Team. You can open Word and click File>Feedback>click I have a suggestion and write this query.

To not delay your work, you can use the method you found to remove page numbers as a workaround.

Appreciate your understanding.

Best regards,

Jazlyn
