Why does Word show a different title than the desktop file when I save it but when I view properties on the desktop file all the time details are the same, and for all purposes it's the same file?

Why does the Word document show a different title than the desktop file when I save it in Microsoft Word, but when I view the properties on the desktop file all the time details are the same, and for all purposes it's the same file?

I really need to be accurate and ensure the document I am emailing is precisely the same document as is on my desktop.

It's nothing to do with Titles, at info properties summary.

Please help me.

Hello Thomaship,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

From your description, I find it a bit uncertain to exactly understand your situation. To help you troubleshoot and resolve your problem more accurately, could you share some screenshots with us about your saving file process? This would be of help.

For an example, which title are you referring to in this "save as" screenshot?

And for an additional information, you can tell us the version of Word application, by switching to "File" tab, and clicking on "account". The version number will be displayed on the right.

Very glad to help you. Hope to see your reply soon.

Kind regards

Since you said this is nothing to do with the Title in File Properties, which "title" are you referring to? Please clarify.

Please respect my wishes about copyright ©.

It's the highlighted section on the screen, middle left, beneath the yellow folders. It's the save as option, and I clicked browse and it leads me there. After the first word there's a ^ character, and then the letter J, and they're the two characters that don't appear in the name on the desktop But it's extremely sensitive, and so I am claiming ©®copyright of the text, so please don't read it, because it's very important to me, just note the area please. ©®

So it's the same box that's in your picture, only bigger. And it's Version 2404 (Build 17531.20140 Click-to-run)

Hello thomaship, I have received your reply. To be honest, I cannot see anything clearly on the computer screen in your photo. But from your description, I guess you mean that the text in the "File name" input box is not as you expected? Well if this is what you mean, you don't need to concern about it. This "File name" is auto filled when you open the "Save As" dialog window with the first header content in your Word file. And if there's something such as symbols, it may be recognized as "^". And, if you don't click on any .DOC files on your desktop, the "File Name" will follow the rule as I mentioned until you modify it manually. And generally it has nothing to do with the file name on your desktop.

Aha, you're welcome, my pleasure to help with your concerns. One more thing, just remember not to name your new document the same as an existing file on the desktop, or will see a notification message alerts that your old file will be replaced by the new one. : )

BTW, you can click on Yes below my prior reply, making this reply easier for other customers with similar issues to notice. By doing so we can help our community improves better.
