Why does Word automatically convert pdf file

I'm so frustrated and can't find resolve on my own.

I have MS OFFICE 2021 PROFESSIONAL.

When I open a new PDF file, WORD ALWAYS wants to convert it to an editable file (which is difficult to read and print) i.e. tax form. Numbers get overlayed on letters or squeezed together. Is there a way to STOP/DISABLE automatic conversion. A resolution will result in less pharmaceutical profits 🤣. Appreciate help on this issue.

PDF is not a native Word file format, so opening a PDF in Word will always require conversion to Word format. Instead, open PDFs in Acrobat Reader or another PDF reader app.

If the problem is that double-clicking a file opens it in Word instead of Acrobat Reader or other PDF reader, then it's because Windows has associated the .pdf file ending with Word. You can try reinstalling Acrobat Reader or other PDF reader to correct this.
