Why do images imported into word flipped?

I have to import images into Word from Photoshop 5 and sometimes these images appear flipped.
It's such an inconsistent pattern that it's hard to pinpoint the reason.

Is this a common thing? Is there any way I can avoid this happening?

Thank you.
No this is quite uncommon.  In fact it’s the first I've heard about it.
is it like a Mirror Images or are they Up-side-down?

Maybe we can figure out a solution depending upon how it's flipped.

Sometimes the images are mirror and sometimes are upside down.

Hi John,

What format are the images you are inserting? From Word are you using Insert > Picture?

Hi Richard,

what i'm doing is clipping an image from a pdf in photoshop and pasting it in cells we've created in our word document.  We are not saving the image on our computer, we are just pasting it from the pdf.

I'm pretty sure it's in the PDF file and some attribute of the image is being picked up by the copy routine.

If you go online look for PDF Images Flipped you'll find a healthy amount of discussion about it. I guess it is a feature of PDF and you can use a Tools setting and flip the images. There is also some discussion about a "known bug" of some years back and images were getting flipped when the document was converted to HTML or RTF.

FWIW, the better way to bring images into a Word document is by Insert > Picture. Copy and Pasting can cause problems particularly if the image was copied from an HTML file.

The issue with the Insert > Picture is, there are so many pieces, that it'll consume so much HD space. We are saving the documents as a .docx file, so the conversion doesn't happen.  Was looking around and didn't really find anything specific to this issue.
