When I click on the People icon to create a New contact, the "New" button is not there.

The question says it all. I'm just in email, nothing special. I'm in sales - I get a new lead - I want to create a contact for them so we can email. Yesterday I could click on the "People" icon, and on the next page, the "New" button would appear, I'd click that, and enter the new contact email, phone number, address, etc. Today, doing the exact same thing, the "New" button is nowhere to be found. My IT desk could not identify the issue either. I'm at a loss of things to try...

Hi MichaaelBennett_Posigen,

Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community.

Based on your description, I know your requirement. First, please tell me you use Outlook on the web or Outlook client?

If you use Outlook client, I did a test for you. Through my test, I can create a new contact by moving mice on one person>click “…”>Contact>”…”>Add to contacts. You can try the following steps to check whether you can create a new contact.

If you cannot successfully do it, please use Outlook on the web(https://outlook.office.com) to check whether you can add there by double-clicking one person>Overview>Add to contacts.

If you can do it on the web, it means it has something wrong with your Outlook client. You can try the following suggestions and check whether you can create a new contact like the above steps.

1. Repair office application: You can repair it referring to Repair an Office application (microsoft.com).

2. Create a new profile and import and export old mail history: First, please refer to Export or backup email, contacts, and calendar to an Outlook .pst file (microsoft.com) to backup your information. Then try to create a new profile according to Create an Outlook profile (microsoft.com).And do not delete the old profile. If nothing works with the new one, you can change it back.

If I misunderstand you, please be kindly provide me more details, screenshots will be better. I will continue to help you with the information you provide. Your understanding and patience are highly appreciated.

Thanks for your precious time. Have a nice day.

Best Regards,

Katherine

Hello Katherine,

I had just started talking with my internal tech support at my company, having copied/pasted your reply, and was checking something, and it was suddenly there again. I didn't do anything specific, or different, that I can point to as the reason. I'm happy about it, but baffled. I'm still wondering what it was, but happy to be productive again.

Thanks for checking back!

Mike
