Visio issue - cannot add or edit text

Hi, something is wrong with my MS Visio.

Every time I try to add text (e.g. a text box) or edit existing text in a drawing, Visio closes down.

The issue seems to be limited to text, i.e. I can still create and edit shapes.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any advice on fixing this?

Hi, Hugo !

Do you meet this issue with some documents or with all Visio documents ?

Hi there!

All documents. I created a new blank Visio file and tried to add text to that just to make sure - same issue. I also uninstalled and re-installed Visio...

Regards

Hugo

Hi Hugo Biermann,

I go through the post carefully, I test on my side however I don’t get the same issue. here are some suggestions:

  1. Make sure you are using latest version of Visio, go to File>Account to update Visio.

  2. If you are using any add-ins in Visio, please disable them temporarily and check the result. Go to File>Options>Add-ins to managed add-ins.

  3. To check if the issue cased by Visio corrupted cache and configuration, perform Office online repair and check the result: Repair an Office application - support.microsoft.com

  4. Try disabling hardware acceleration from File > Options > Advanced>Display and check the result.

We appreciate your understanding that sometimes the initial suggestions may not resolve the problem very soon. However, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation. So, Please kindly provide more information below to let us work further.

  1. What is your Visio version? you may check it from Visio>File>Account.

  2. Have you changed anything before the issue?

Regards,

Clark

Hi Clark

Many thanks - please see my responses below:

1) Yes, latest version.

2) There are no add-ins.

3) I performed an online repair, but no change.

4) I cannot disable hardware acceleration - the option is greyed out on my system.

I am using Version 2201 (Build 14827.20158) and did not change anything as I only recently installed the program.

Many thanks for trying to help me.

Hugo

Thank you. I can paste or drag text from another application, but as soon as I try to change or delete the text in Visio I have the same problem.

Thank you. I can paste or drag text from another application, but as soon as I try to change or delete the text in Visio I have the same problem.

  1. Try creating a new file

  2. Copy some contents of the problem file into it (at least a few shapes)

  3. Check in the new document if the text of the shapes can be changed ?

Hi Surrogate!

I created a new file and copied some contents of a problem file into it, but I still cannot change any text.

Note that the same problem occurs even if you try to change text in a new file (with no "problem file" contents).

Regards

Hugo

Hi Hugo Biermann,

Thanks for the updates. As it seems the issue also happens on new Visio files, it could no be related to files contents. here are some more suggestions:

  1. To check if the issue related to any other programs on Windows, please perform windows clean boot and check the result: How to perform a clean boot in Windows

  2. To check if the issue related to windows user profile, try creating a new admin user and login in windows with it: Create a local user or administrator account in Windows

Additionally, if your device is managed by IT admin in your organization, may I know if the issue happens on other devices?

Regards,

Clark
