User getting access denied on own onedrive (for business)

Hello,

I have a user which was deleted and recreated later on (new account, same upn).

User gets access denied on onedrive. both on windows as in web browser.
Already checked https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/onedrive-user-unable-to-access/21877d0f-9b78-4658-8087-b1836bd02a05

User is primary and secondary admin of own site collection and rights look ok, No issues with other users.

Deleted site collection and see it gets re-created\provisioned, but to no use.

I can open the users onedrive as admin, through the 365 admin site.

Read this is a known issue when a user is created with an upn of a deleted\removed previous account.

Not really wanting to remove the entire account and create a new one with another upn (which seems to be the only "solution" offered), as that would invalidate our naming policy and raise issues with the existing\already in use mailbox.

Please advise.

Dear JVB_NL,

Greetings! Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

As per your description, you have a user which was deleted and recreated with new account and same UPN. He gets access denied when accessing OneDrive for business. You don't want to remove the entire account and create a new one with another UPN.

We appreciate you share with us the troubleshooting steps you have tried.

May I know if you checked this official article Access Denied or You need permission to access this site - SharePoint | Microsoft Learn?

You may try to delete the new UPN if it exists, and then restore the original UPN.

Therefore, we sincerely recommend you raise a support ticket (with Microsoft 365 admin permission) by following steps in this article Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn The support team has higher permission and more resource than us.
