I recently switched to a new PC that is running Windows 10 and Office 2016. I am accessing Excel Workbooks stored on O365 SharePoint and am constantly getting the following error when I save an Excel workbook to SharePoint:

I am the only one editing the workbook, and in the file history in the SharePoint Library actually shows that I edited it... Even though the save failed.

What can be done to avoid this error and restore my confidence in that my changes are been saved properly?

Allison, thanks for keeping everyone updated.  I'm also hitting this issue as well, and it'd be great to continue to receive updates on your support case.

I haven't tried the top suggested "solution" yet, but I did notice that the problem seems to happen again if I leave the file in question closed for at least an hour.  My initial guess was that it was a timezone issue, but I don't think that's it...

I have recently rolled out SharePoint Online and just encountered the same issue. Have you heard anything from Microsoft regarding a resolution. We are using Office 365 16.0.9126.2116 which was just updated on 3/31/2018. Could it be something in this version. During all the testing we did, we did not receive this error.'

Similar looking issues may be caused by several reasons. If you continue to receive the error, I’ll suggest you create a new thread, so we can assign an engineer to work with you to investigate the issue.

The issue still exists for me and my support case is ongoing. However I have done one thing to improve my ability to successfully save spreadsheets.

  1. First I reinstalled my OneDrive client
  2. Next, by right clicking the OneDrive icon in the bottom right corner of my toolbar on my desktop I selected Settings --> Office --> and UNchecked the option for "Use Office 2016 to sync Office files that I open"

With that option unchecked, I can successfully save so far. However, it means that my changes aren't being saved to SharePoint as I go. I have to click save.

I do know that I have been seeing the error well before the 3/31/18 update... so I'm not sure that's it.

I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. I've had a support case open with Microsoft since January and I've gotten nowhere. Just thought I would throw that update out there for the others who are experiencing the issue.
