Unable to open VBA editor (version 16.37 2020) on my macbook

Hi, I am unable to open my VBA editor even on a clean new workbook. Whenever I try to open the editor, it will say "out of memory". When I quit the excel application, I will receive an unexpected error (50001).

This is the first time I am facing this issue, I have >40 Gb in my storage, and previously when my storage was < 5 Gb, I can still open the VBA editor. I tried all the solution online, reinstalling excel, delete Com.microsoft.officeprefs.plist file, open a new workbook, repair disk using first aid, but none of these works. I understand that for window user they are able to delete the corrupt file in the registry, however there is no equivalent in mac. Hence, is there any other things I can do to solve this issue?

P.S. I am unable to rollback, as my previous backup is way too long ago. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

To add on:

When I check my containers, it seems that the application "com.microsoft.openxml.excel" cannot be opened because it may be damaged or incomplete <-- this prompt popped out and I am unable to open the folder.

I am suspecting it is corrupted and got to do with me not being able to open the VBA editor.

I managed to solve the issue by deleting the "com.microsoft.openxml.excel" that seems to have problem and move com.microsoft.Excel into my desktop. After restarting my computer, I am able to open my VBA editor again.

However, may I know what caused me the problem of not opening the VBA editor in the first place? And how does moving com.microsoft.Excel into my desktop solve the issue? Sorry I am not a very tech savy person.
