Unable to block domain.xyz spam

Yes, I know how to block senders. But this one I can't block. Suggestions? Using latest updated version of Outlook on 2015 MacBook Pro, latest IOS. Thank you

What happens when you try?

You may need to create a rule to delete mail with words in sender address.

Hi!

Here are things you can try:

  1. Right click the message that is junk, then select View Source.  This will display the message headers and let you confirm that the email address your see IS the true email address of the sender.
  2. Make sure the sender is not listed in Safe Domains under "Junk E-mail Protection."
  3. In Block Senders tab, make sure you block the domain and not the email address.  For example, instead of blocking *** Email address is removed for privacy *** block @junkmail.com.

Unfortunately, in today's world email spoofing has become rampant, which is why I suggest doing #1.  As an IT consultant, I chase the true source of emails every week by viewing the email source.

Many thanks to all who replied. This is one pesky spam source! I tried the 'view source' (I think) but got only several screens of what looks like formatting code. Still don't understand why sender can't be blocked. Googled several iterations of senders email and haven't seen anyone else with same problem. I will try creating a rule for words in sender address, but at this point I pretty much surrender. I can delete the spam in a second or two, of course, it's just the lack of control that frustrates me. Oh well. Not a big deal in the scheme of things.

Thanks again.

Hi Jeffrey,

Thanks for your update. Firstly, please make sure the Outlook is up to date. Go to Help > Check for Update. As a workaround, if you are using an Office 365 for Business account, you can try to block the email address in Outlook Web App. And may I know if there is an error when you block the email? Since it is in Outlook for Mac client, you can contact in-app support for further assistance. You can click Help > Contact Support as we have dedicated to help with your issue.

Regards,

Carlos

Hi Carlos,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, my Outlook is always updated. I'm using the personal version of 365, not the biz version. I don't get any error msg when blocking this sender, it just doesn't succeed in blocking. This is the only domain I've been unsuccessful in blocking. I figure I've spent waaay too much time on what should only be a minor irritant. Or maybe I'd just like to solve the puzzle. If I have some time on my hands I'll contact support.

Thanks,

Jeff

Lots of folks with complaints. Hard to fathom why Microsoft doesn't have a fix . . .

Hi Jeffrey,

The same symptom could be caused by a different root cause. And the link you provided applies to Outlook.com instead of Outlook for Mac. If you are using Outlook.com account, you can try to block the sender on the web side as I mentioned above.

Thanks for your understanding.

Regards,

Carlos

Hi Carlos,

Yes, I'm aware that the link I posted was for Outlook.com, not Outlook for Mac which I use.

BUT it is precisely the same problem. I do not understand why MS seems unable or unwilling to acknowledge, then fix, this issue. The fixes suggested (thank you all) on the thread do not work, plain and simple.

Hi Jeffrey,

Thanks for your reply. For Outlook.com, our related engineer updated that we have the feature to block top domain in the link you provided. Outlook.com users can follow the steps to block email address in Outlook.com. It is not related to your issue. You tried to block the address in Outlook for Mac. It is the feature within Outlook for Mac application. But if you are using an Outlook.com account, you can follow the steps in the link and block the domain.

Let's focus on your issue, Please check whether you can find the sender in block sender list. If so, you can remove it, then manually enter the domain and block again. As a workaround, you can use an inbox rule to block these spam emails.

Regards,

Carlos

Hi Carlos,

Thank you very much for your reply. To recap, I'm using Outlook with Office 365, always updated, on MacBook Pro, latest IOS. I've tried blocking newslettreforu.xyz (and the similar addresses they use) on both the 'standard' Outlook and the beta version. I have deleted and re-entered rule and domain blocks in both Outlook versions. Still can't block them. I should also note that I've tried to block other *.xyz spam without success.
